Redland takes a stricter line than most of its neighbours. Where Logan and the Sunshine Coast let you self-assess, Redland wants a permit for every domestic driveway crossover, whether it is new, modified or replaced.
There is a fair bit to get through. Eleven setback distances, a width table keyed to frontage, and obligations that carry on long after the concrete has cured. Checked 15 August 2026 against the council's Domestic driveways and crossovers page.
Eleven setbacks, and all of them apply
Miss one and the crossover is not compliant:

The 0.7 m boundary setback applies at both sides, which catches narrow lots.
W1, W2 and the 50% frontage rule
W1 is the maximum width at the kerb invert including splays, and W2 the maximum at the property boundary.

On a frontage of 10 m or shorter, W1 must not exceed 50% of the total lot frontage. Two crossovers require a minimum 6 m between them and a maximum combined W2 of 9.0 m. Duplex rows omitted — see the council's table.
Miss the setbacks or the widths and it's an operational works approval from Council's Engineering and Assessment team, not a driveway permit.
The 900 mm the permit attaches to
With concrete kerb and channel, the crossover is the 900 mm deep section of the driveway where the kerb is cut. Where there's no kerb or pipe crossing, it runs from the road edge to the private property edge of the roadside table drain.

Tree roots, soil drop-off, and what stays yours
Redland lists the owner's obligations in unusual detail:
- Repairs where tree roots damage the driveway
- Any damage or breakage to the driveway
- Soil drop-off at the driveway edge
- Damage to the kerb and channel near or in front of the driveway
- Ensuring the driveway is not a hazard to anyone using the council-managed footpath or verge
- Public liability for injury or property damage caused by the owner
During construction the owner also has to locate services before digging, dowel concrete adjoining existing footpath or kerb, and restore any kerb, channel or open drain disturbed.
Gradients: the one thing this page will not tell you
The page states no gradient figures, so grades and slopes come from the council reference drawing for your frontage.
