Logan City Council's driveway fact sheet is unusually practical: it sets out a checklist, and if your driveway passes every item you may build it without submitting an application.

RS-049 and RS-050 are the same IPWEA sheets several South East Queensland councils use — their profile and notes are covered in the Gold Coast article.
Width, location and frontage
- Residential driveways: maximum width 5 metres, and narrower is preferred where roads are narrow.
- Minimum 12 metres clearance from intersections, measured from the cadastral boundary, unless otherwise approved.
- At least 6 metres from the tangent point of an intersection — see RS-049.
- A second driveway requires more than 30 metres of frontage.
- Constructed at a right angle to the road.
The checklist that decides whether you apply
If there is kerb and channel outside your property and you can answer yes to every question, no application is needed. A no to any one of them means you must apply. The clearances in the list are specific:
- 600 mm clear of the nearest stormwater pit
- 800 mm clear of any power or light pole
- Not within 10 m of the approach side of a bus stop
- Levels match existing concrete footpaths, where present
- Clear of water meters, hydrants, valves, sewer and stormwater manholes, and not over the water supply pipe between main and meter
- Not built over a council easement, and clear of road signs, trees, traffic islands, parking bays and double unbroken centre lines
Where there is no kerb and channel, an application is required either way.

Driveways on state-controlled roads are approved by the Department of Transport and Main Roads, not Council, through a Road Corridor Permit.
What the fact sheet does not say
