The City of Moreton Bay publishes several driveway standard drawings, and the most common error is reading the wrong one. They are near-identical in appearance and materially different in what they permit.
Checked 15 August 2026 against the council's published drawings.
Which drawing is yours
| Drawing | Title | Applies to |
|---|---|---|
| RS-049 | Vehicle crossing, low density residential — plan 1 of 2 | Width and setout for an ordinary house |
| RS-050 | Vehicle crossings, residential driveways — plan 2 of 2 | The profile, and the construction notes |
| RS-051 | Vehicle crossings, heavy duty | Industrial, commercial and multi-unit residential |
| RS-056 | Driveways — rural driveway | Rural access |
Read from the council's published drawings, checked 15 August 2026.
For a standard house on a kerbed street, RS-049 and RS-050 are the pair that matter. RS-051 states on its face that it applies to industrial, commercial and multi-unit residential domains — it is not the sheet for a single dwelling.
The drawings are the IPWEA standard, unchanged
Moreton Bay's RS-049 and RS-050 are the Institute of Public Works Engineering Australasia standard drawings, adopted as published rather than amended locally. They are the same sheets the City of Gold Coast publishes, down to the revision history.
That is useful to know: the crossing profile, the permitted grades and the construction notes are identical. Those are set out in detail in the Gold Coast article, and everything there about RS-049 and RS-050 applies here too.
What to do next
Get the current drawing from the council rather than working from a copy: these are revised, and the sheets carry a revision table showing they have been. The drawings also carry their own instruction to confirm adoption with the relevant council before use.
For the state-level position see driveway gradients in Queensland. For a nearby council that publishes materially different figures, see Brisbane.
